LIFE SKILLS TOOL BOX

A SERIES OF LIFE SKILLS FOR APPRENTICES OR TRAINEES, WHICH HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO BUILD RESILIENCE AGAINST SUICIDAL BEHAVIOUR.

The construction industry can be a great place to work and can offer great career opportunities. However, it can also be a hard place to work with long working hours, hard physical work in hot and dusty conditions. Apprentices within the Queensland construction industry have been found to be at a significantly higher risk of suicide than young people in Australia generally.

The Life Skills Tool Box is a series of life skills delivered as an integral part of an apprentice or trainees training. The tool box provides key skills which have been proven to build resilience against suicidal behaviour. As suicidal behaviour can be seen as the “tip of the iceberg” reduced suicide rates will also indicate a general improvement in coping skills for life in general.

Employers have noted how the Life Skills Tool Box actually makes it easier to train apprentices and trainees in the traditional work skills. The Life Skills Tool Box training modules are nationally accredited and have been mapped against the National Employability Skill Set for ACT and Queensland for construction industry apprentice.
